This stunning 1953 356 Bent Screen ?Pre A? coupe and a 1966 Porsche 912, two classics bookending the marque?s early four cylinder era, will be crossing the block at Shannons Melbourne summer classic auction on November 26.
The subject of a complete restoration, the low mileage 356 is finished in black with a beige corduroy interior and interior trim mirroring the original pattern and fabric.
Originally sold new in Texas and as a result largely rust-free when exported to Australia, the sympathetic restoration has retained the original floors and body panels and seen the 1488cc engine rebuilt to 70hp ?1500 Super? specs.
Professionally converted to right hand drive, the vehicle?s factory option fuel gauge and Telefunken ID53 radio have been retained along with the car?s skinny 16-inch wheels.
The drum brakes and four-speed gearbox showed very little sign of wear, demonstrating that this 356 was a low-mileage, well-cared for vehicle that is expected to attract bids in the $95-110,000 range.
Four cylinder Porsche enthusiasts on the look out for the 911?s distinctive outline, should look no further than this perfect and affordable 1966 Porsche 912?was a cheaper and more fuel efficient alternative to the six-cylinder 911 and actually outsold the 911 in 1966, the year the car being auctioned was delivered new in Munich.
The matching numbers left hand drive car was originally finished in Polo Red, but was later resprayed in its current Tangerine and its 1582cc engine rebuilt to its original 90hp specification ensuring sporting performance and?just 40hp less than the 95kg heavier early six-cylinder 911.
With the 50th anniversary of the first public showing of the 911 coming up next year, the 912 is emerging from the shadow of its more glamorous stable mate and values are rising.?With a guiding range of $14-$18,000, this 912 is in ready-to-enjoy or ready-to-restore condition.
The two Porsches are amongst 43 rare and unusual vehicles in the auction, including seven with no reserve, plus a few classic motorcycles including a couple of ?very desirable? Ducatis.
