Modern Restaurant and Bar to open in Buckhead

Restaurateur Kane Xu will open the new Modern Restaurant and Bar in Buckhead Saturday. The kitchen, led by Mark Alba, who has worked at Canoe and Spice, will offer up what it calls modern American food with a heavy emphasis on seafood.

Look for items like traditional butter-poached lobster, wild Scottish salmon and sous vide pork belly. In addition to the regular menu, Modern will serve five- and seven-course tasting menus complete with wine pairings.

The bar will sell a range of cocktails, 120 wine varietals and 30 craft, local and imported beers.

The restaurant?s 12,000 square-foot space contains a 125-seat bar, 250-seat main dining room, 60-seat patio and three private dining rooms.

New Italian spot in Midtown

Midtown will have another option for Italian cuisine this fall. La Tagliatella, which first opened in 1991 and has over 130 locations throughout Spain and France, will open its first U.S. eatery in the Shops at Metropolis. La Tagliatella will serve traditional Italian dishes in shareable sizes, with many its ingredients like Parmigiano-Reggiano imported from northern Italy. The menu also offers over 20 Napoletano-style pizzas, all made in a central open kitchen. The restaurant will also pour a full range of wine and spirits. Barbecue Victory Dinner

Chefs Jay Swift, Todd Mussman and Nick Melvin and farmer Tommy Searcy won the COCHON Heritage BBQ competition that took place in Memphis, TN last month. To celebrate and give Atlantans a taste of the winning ?cue, they will host a ?snout-to-tail? dinner with items such as chile relleno pie, ham pastrami with mustard-molasses glaze, hominy corn nuts and pig?s head gumbo with dirty rice calas. The meal will begin with a Templeton rye whiskey cocktail and a talk given by COCHON founder Brady Lowe. 5 p.m. Oct. 28. Purchase tickets online for this event at 4th & Swift. $30.

Share Our Strength Dinner

On Sunday, Nov. 11, Empire State South?s chef Ryan Smith will partner with chefs Ashley Christensen of Poole?s Diner (Raleigh, NC), Josh Keeler of Two Boroughs Larder (Charleston, SC), Aaron Deal of The River and the Rail (Roanoke, VA) and Michael Schwartz of Michael?s Genuine Food & Drink (Miami, FL) to host a five-course meal. The dinner will benefit Share Our Strength, an organization devoted to ending childhood hunger in the U.S. The meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, wine and hors d?oeuvres. The seated dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. Purchase tickets online. $175.
