Reports: Watt considered to head Housing Finance Agency ...

Charlotte Rep. Mel Watt is being considered to lead the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which regulates Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

Watt, a Democrat, is a longtime member of the House Financial Services Committee, which oversees housing issues. The reports of Watt being considered for the top post come as the Obama administration has faced criticism for a lack of diversity in the president?s Cabinet.

Watt declined to comment on the reports through his spokesman, Keith B. Kelly.

This is not the first time Watt?s name has been floated for a top administrative position. The Congressional Black Caucus lobbied President Barack Obama to name Watt, who has served 20 years in Congress, as commerce secretary.
