A security company is hoping to introduce a robotic entrance portal that they say will block and push out suspected attackers from buildings.
The Linear Revolving Door (LRD), recently patented by Barbecan Security Systems, is a series of parallel hallways positioned at the entrance of a building. Each passage has two doors that move with you as you walk, temporarily closing both in front of and behind you ? similar to a revolving door.
The portals are equipped with sensors that keep pace with your stride; if the sensors detect a threat, like a hidden bomb or firearm, the doors move in reverse and push you out.
Barbecan is assertive in its claims about the hallway?s effectiveness. In a press release, which includes the phrase ?Newtown could have been prevented,? the company says:
?A guard at a building entrance won?t stop a determined and well-armed attacker ? especially if they have suicidal motivations. The LRD portal WILL NOT let an armed gunman enter a building. Period ? Gun control is not the answer. The installed base of potent weapons is just too large.?
The release says the LRD portal could be used for any crowded areas, including schools, malls, banks and airports.
As of now, Barbecan has filed both U.S. and international patents for the portal. You can read the full release here.
