Q&A: Why shouldn't evolution be taught in ... - Education Reference

Question by N: Why shouldn?t evolution be taught in catholic schools?
I attend a catholic high school in Canada (not sure if the policy is different else where), I was against becoming a student there at first (obvious reasons) but i figured it should be just like any other school academically, asides for a painful hour and a half of religion class every day. Boy was I mad when i found out evolution wasn?t being taught in science classes, it?s scientific fact for heavens sake. I understand it goes against genesis in the bible, so why can?t they atleast present it as theory, it wouldn?t be too hard, since it IS ?the theory of evolution.? Though I hope I dont get any answers saying ?if you admit it?s a theory, why do you beleive it?? besides me being able to pin that against the bible, i can point out how gravity is called a theory from a scientific stand point. Well anyway, the closest i got to learning anything about evolution or how the world was created was in a grade 9 geography class from a long term supply teacher, who said we needed to know these things (which we do!) A few years back, i had wanted to enter the scientific field, and i realize now how dificult that would be for someone who knew nothing about evolution, despite what they believe in.

Why hasn?t teaching evolution in ALL schools been made mandatory yet, and how can i bring this up in class without being labeled as evil (trust me, that could easily happen.)

Because the church wants you to believe that god made you how you are now and not evolution.
